Morning Swimming at Waterlooville Pool

Those wishing to join us for an early morning training session but are not sure, Alex Campbell is going to run taster sessions on the first Monday of the month starting Monday June 5th. These are great sessions for improving your fitness & technique, when Ironman training get your swimming done early leaving plenty of time for your other disciplines. If you want to come along please let us know using the swimming@portsmouthtriathletes.co.uk email for information, numbers will be limited to 6/7 at a time so get in early and secure your place. We look forward to seeing you bright and early.

Winter Spinning sessions

The club has a private hire for members of the spinning bikes in the gym at the Mountbatten centre, Portsmouth on Tuesdays, coached by the club TE coaches, and the focus is on winter fitness building towards triathlon, duathlon and time trials in 2017.

The bikes have flat pedals with toe straps or SPD cleats. So either wear SPD shoes or trainers. Bring a towel and a drink. Advisable to wear cycling shorts.

There’s free parking & hot showers and only £2.65 per-session. Pay at reception on the way in and please pass your till receipt to Jo on arrival or show your Mountbatten centre pass.

Arrive by 6:45 for your first session as you will need to set up bike and be inducted.
Capacity is limited to 30 bikes

These sessions will finish at the end of March where we will then switch to the road.

Suitable for all adult members, novice to experienced. Any questions just ask!

Sea Swimming

Sat 9:00 am; Tues 6:00pm (Spring and Summer season only)

We swim together as a group for safety, at Eastney beach, within the yellow buoys which mark the swimmng area opposite St Georges Rd, near the pitch and putt golf course.

Our sessions are for club members and are not coached therefore anyone participating does so entirely at their own risk. You must always undertake your own assessment of the conditions before entering the water. The Portsmouth Triathletes club take no responsibility for the safety or belongings of any person participating in our sea swimming sessions. The club does not provide a rescue service during the hosted sea swim sessions.

All swimmers are advised for their safety to remain within the boundary of the designated swim zone area which is marked by yellow bouys. The club kayak and beach patrol will only operate as far as the submarine blocks.

Family members aged under 16 may participate at the discretion of the Lead Officer but must be supervised at all times by a parent/responsible adult.

The first sea swim of 2017 will be held at 4:00pm on May 1st Bank Holiday Monday. After then, regular swims will follow every Saturday from 6th May, to be in the water by 9:00am at the latest, in order to avoid the Park Runners, throughout May until the end of October. We also swim Tuesdays, meet 6:00pm to get in the water by 6:15pm, first session on 9th May.

Before participating in a club sea swim session you must have completed an In Case of Emergency (ICE) form and read the accompanying advice notes issued by the club. You must also sign the attendance register at every session before entering the sea and sign out immediately on leaving the water.

The club will provide a volunteer Beach Watch Officer who will administer the attendance register at the water edge, please volunteer on the rota for this position. We may also provide a kayak patrol at the discretion of the Lead Officer, this is not a rescue service, but provides a barrier between the swimmers and any passing craft. Please also volunteer for this role if you have suitable sea kayak experience. We may also provide a Beach Patrol on busy sessions which is also on the rota.

Please attend and listen to the safety briefing which will be given 5-minutes before each session. All participants are strongly encouraged to wear a yellow club swim hat (£3) so you can be identified in the water. Spare hats are available upon request.

Our sea swims are not coached, but they do give us a chance to practice open water swimming in a much safer environment. These sessions are not suitable for non swimmers wishing to learn to swim.

Be safe! We don’t recommend open water swimming far offshore alone!.

We also have the use of a beach hut, convenient for securing your bags and for tea and cake after! Many also/instead have a run along the prom after.

Meet at beach hut number 14, opposite the beachside “Coffee Cup” café, it’s just on the east side of where St  Georges Road meets the esplanade.

Pool Swimming (technique coaching session)

Wednesday 8:30 – 9:30 pm

Swimming for improvers and beginners: Cost £4.50 per session.

This is an intensive coached session to improve your front crawl swim technique. For all abilities of front crawl swimmers. We do not coach Brest Stroke. The sessions are taken by our Level Two Coach/Swim Teacher Alex Campbell, assisted our swim coordinator and Level Two Coach Lesley Quiney.

Held on Wednesdays at 8:30pm at Waterlooville pool, Waterberry Drive, PO7 7UW

If you’re planning to come along for the first time please contact our pool swimming coordinator. This will ensure space is available and ensure an level of tutoring appropriate to your ability.

Throughout the year our members are cycling in small discrete groups by personal arrangement. These often arranged verbally or via the club Facebook group (here ). You can check or drop a message in there if you need to contact any prospective cyclists before turning up Why not post details of your own ride and encourage others to join you.

A note on insurance
Our BTA insurance covers the club for public liability, but individuals training, whether club members or not are not covered for personal accident. Individual BTA membership does carry this personal injury insurance when competing or training, and we advise our members to look into this.
